FAQs

Where is the nearest car park?

There is The Lanes Car Park which you can access on Black Lion Street, and if you’re lucky there is limited on-street parking nearby which is free after 8pm.

How far are you from the railway station?

We are a 10 minute walk from Brighton Station – just walk towards the seafront until you reach Duke Street, turn left and walk until you join Ship Street, which you follow and fork left onto Prince Albert Street, we are then four doors north of Caffe Nero.

Where’s the closest bus stop?

We are a two minute walk from North Street and five minutes from Churchill Square where almost every bus in the city runs through.

Where is the nearest taxi rank?

We are a two minute walk from a big taxi rank on East Street

Can we come early for our table and have a drink?

Unfortunately we only have 20 seats in the restaurant and we book all of them out if and when there is the demand. We are right in the centre of Brighton though and there are several pubs and bars within a minute’s walk from us.

Do you allow children?

Children under the age of 16 are welcome in the restaurant until 8pm (in accordance with our licence). Due to the small size of the restaurant we are unable to have buggies on the floor, but we do have a cloak room we can put fold-up ones in. We have one highchair if needed, and the box stools on the tables are sturdy enough for a baby’s carry-seat – please just let us know of any of these requirements when booking.

Do you allow dogs?

Unfortunately, due to the small space and open kitchen we do not allow dogs in the restaurant (try the terrace at our sister restaurant Murmur though!)

Do you have wheelchair access?

Because we are a listed building we have not been able to remove the step leading to the restaurant. There is also a small step in the restaurant on the way to the toilet too. We have accommodated guests in wheelchairs in the past though, please contact us via phone or email if you do have any special access needs.

What is the maximum capacity of the restaurant?

The restaurant seats 20 people – 10 along the chefs’ pass overlooking the kitchen and 10 at tables at the front of the restaurant. The pass seating consists of cushioned bar stools with a small back to each, and the tables have lower-down cushioned box stools with no backs.

What is your largest party size?

Due to the size of the restaurant and style of food the maximum number of a group we can accommodate is four people.

Do you do set menus?

We do not serve set menus. Our menu consists of an ever-changing selection of small plates designed for sharing, split into three categories: Fish, Veg and Meat. The idea is to order six dishes for two to share and we will bring them to you one at a time, starting with the lightest and finishing with the richest.

Is all your produce local?

While we will always aim to buy from nearby farms and businesses, quality will always trump locality – so if a better product can be found slightly further afield we will invariably use this.

Is it best to sit at the pass?

That all depends on what you are after. We would always suggest sitting at the pass, as this is where you can see and interact with the chefs as they plate the food up in front of you. If you are looking for something a bit more intimate you may prefer a table to yourself, although you should be aware that due to the small size of the restaurant you will always be part of the bustling environment. Please also be aware that we don’t guarantee specific seats, but will endeavour to meet any requests.

Do you save space for walk-ins?

Unfortunately not – we book out every seat if and when there is demand, so reserving a table is recommended! If it’s a quieter day there may still be space if you happen to be walking past though.

What is the atmosphere like?

Due to the small space and the fast-paced nature of the restaurant the atmosphere is often buzzy and bustling, with an eclectic selection of music on offer.

Do you sell vouchers?

We do indeed! We offer them at any denomination of your choice – the best thing to do is come along to the restaurant and pick one up if you are local. Alternatively you can call the restaurant and we can process over the phone and post the voucher out to you. We do kindly ask that you avoid service times (12-4/6-10).

Do you offer the restaurant for exclusive hire?

We do! We can create a bespoke lunch or dinner for you based on the needs of your group. The maximum capacity is 20 people, with half the seating at the pass and the other half at tables. The cost varies depending on the day – please email us for more information.
